He raised a petition in Jan 2007 for free parking whilst regeneration work takes place and presented
that petition to full Council
He held open meetings in the town in Feb 2007 and Mar 2007 to collect ideas
for ways of maintaining and improving the town. Many of the ideas
have since been implemented, ie
- half price flower baskets
were organised for interested shops and guest houses for the 2007 season. this kickstarted a renewal of interest in Brixham
in Bloom
- traders are invited each year to submit details
of their businesses (opening hours etc) to appear on the data base on brixhamnews.com
- Brixham Buccaneers , a voluntary group, was established to promote and provide themed days during holiday time
(Pirate Thursdays)
Together
with the Buccaneers David has
- established a
colouring competition that is enjoyed by children in local schools and by children on holiday
- organised a family Pirate hunt that encourages familes to walk along the streets and look in shop windiows
- ensured that there were Christmas Lights in Brixham in 2007
IIn May 2009 the Brixham
Buccaneers held their first (very successful!) 4 day pirate and shanty festival becoming Guinness World
Record holders "largest gathering of Pirates - 3rd May 2009" and they have now started a much needed new social club in Brixham.
In 2010 the second festival
was held, and the world record attempt made on the 2nd May 2010 was successful!
