David

He is the author of 2 waymarked walks in Brixham (Mariners Way and Panorama Route)  a booklet describing these being obtainable from the Brixham TIC.. Look out for a new walk - the Buccaneers heritage Trail - to be published soon!

He raised a petition in Jan 2007 for free parking whilst regeneration work takes place and presented that petition to full Council

He held open meetings in the town in Feb 2007 and Mar 2007 to collect ideas for ways of maintaining and improving the town. Many of
the ideas have since been implemented, ie
  • half price flower baskets were organised for interested shops and guest houses for the 2007 season. this kickstarted a renewal of interest in Brixham in Bloom
  • traders are invited each year to submit details of their businesses (opening hours etc) to appear on the data base on brixhamnews.com
  • Brixham Buccaneers , a voluntary group, was established to promote and provide themed days during  holiday time (Pirate Thursdays)

Together with the Buccaneers David has

  • established a colouring competition that is enjoyed by children in local schools and by children on holiday
  • organised a family Pirate hunt that encourages familes to walk along the streets and look in shop windiows
  • ensured that there were Christmas Lights in Brixham in 2007

IIn May 2009 the Brixham Buccaneers held their first (very successful!)  4 day pirate and shanty festival becoming Guinness World Record holders "largest gathering of Pirates - 3rd May 2009" and they have now started a much needed new social club in Brixham.
